Galärvarvskyrkogården, Stockholm, Sweden

[visited 15 May 2022]

A tiny burial space located just behind the Vasa Museum, this is the last in a line of cemeteries intended for use by the navy.

Please visit the official cemetery website for more information.

According to one source, ten men and two women whose remains were recovered from the Vasa were reinterred here in 1963 beneath this memorial:

Skogskyrkogården, or Woodland Cemetery, Stockholm, Sweden

 [visited 15 May 2022]

A luscious, grand open space this UNESCO World Heritage site is more of a park than a burial ground and is probably most famous for being the final resting place of Greta Garbo.

For more information please visit the official cemetery website where you can sign up for guided tours and download the guide-map.

Vår Frelsers Gravelund, Oslo, Norway

[visited 20 May 2022]

One of the most notable burials in this lush, lovely cemetery in the hills above Oslo is that of painter Edvard Munch who also has his own rather incredible museum along the waterfront.

it told you it was lush -- and a great place to sit and read or watch your baby

Vysehrad Cemetery, Prague, Czech Republic

[visited 5 May 2022]

Located adjacent to the church of Saint Peter and Paul and on a high bluff overlooking the Vltava River the Vysehrad Cemetery in Prague is chock full of incredible works of art: portrait medallions, busts, freestanding statues, mosaics and much more are to be found.

It is also the final resting place of many notable Czechs including composer Antonin Dvorak and art Nouveau painter and illustrator Alphonse Mucha. (Mucha is buried in a large tomb called Slavin, the resting place for many famous Czech cultural and historical figures.)

For more information visit the official Prague tourist site.

Since there are a large number of wonderful pieces of art in this cemetery, I have included many, many photos in this post. Forewarned is forearmed. . . .
