Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague, Czech Republic

[visited 3 May 2022]

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague is one of the oldest Jewish burial grounds in the world dating back to the 15th century. It was closed for burials in the late 18th century.

Due to the lack of space many of the graves contain up to 10 individuals, one on top of another,  thus the closeness of the stones. One of the more fascinating parts of the cemetery is a wall that holds some of the earliest memorial stones (see 2nd to last photo below).

The tour of the cemetery is self-guided but you're restricted in where you can walk. In fact you exit at a different location from the entrance.
